First 7-5/8 in. HP SET Openhole Liner in Deepwater GOM
An operator drilling a sub-salt exploration deepwater well in Gulf of Mexico, experienced an unstable wellbore at the base of the salt; which resulted in setting the 9-7/8 in. liner 3,400 ft higher than originally planned.
In exploratory wells, maintaining hole size is critical due to deeper uncertainties, such as unknown pressure regimes. For this reason, the operator needed a solution that would preserve hole size while providing greater collapse properties than standard SET systems.
